"There was definitely an 'aha' moment, when I knew: this is what I wanted to with my life," says Marlborough based designer Aimee Materoa.
Ten years ago Aimee started out on her journey in the building and design industry whilst renovating homes in both Australia and New Zealand.
"I was very much into the renovation side of things back then, but I discovered a love for colour and the importance good design."
Following a return to school to study interior design, Aimee knew then that she wanted to specialise in kitchen and bathroom design with NKBA (the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association).
"The kitchen is the soul of the household. So first I really have to get to know the person - their story. Only then can I really put pen to paper and design something critical to who they are as human beings."
In collaboration with several joiners within the top of the south.
Aimee is the designer of winning kitchens:
• Best Kitchen ($20-$40k) - 2020
• Supreme Award - 2020
• Best Kitchen - 2021
• Best Renovation - 2022
But recently success has been measured by the work for people she has committed to in Marlborough, where she is currently based.
"It's all about authentic design. I am pushing constantly to create something timeless and elegant for my clients. That's not just about the looks, it's also about the feel and functionality of the room."
"Ergonomics and functionality first, and then we bring all the Aroha in... and all the love."
